Melfar Academy: The first day

"Vo-kun!"

"Ne, Vo-kun!"

"Oh! Come on! Wake up!"

Vogen opened his eyes and saw a little girl. It was her, his first love. The wind was playing with her long hair, her emerald eyes shined like diamonds and her smiled made his heart race each time it appeared. 

"You've finally opened your eyes" She giggled. "If I didn't know you I'd thought you don't want to wake up" 

"What makes you think I want to?" 

"I know." She smiled, while reaching out her hand "Otherwise I wouldn't call myself your best friend, would I?" 

He smiled, then grabbed her hand and raised from the grass. She was barefeet and wearing a white summer dress, each time the same in every dream he meets her. She was as cheerful as he remembered her from their childhood times, all before the events that ruined her. 

"What's wrong?" She asked with a worried face.

"Nothing. But each time I look at you, I simply wish to return to those carefree times." He looked down "Everything....just went the wrong way. I'm sorry" 

"Stop." She said in an emotionless tone "Stop apologizing. Stop blaming yourself. Stop remembering the past, which will never return."

"I can't" He clenched his teeth "You help me many times, you saved me, but when the time came for me to save you I failed. I couldn't save you from yourself!"

"It's not that you couldn't." She stepped closer "It's just that I didn't want to be saved."

"If the vampires hadn't appeared that day, you wouldn't have changed so much." He sighed 

But the girl only smiled, then looked at the horizon. The sun was slowly hiding behind the heavy clouds, which suggest that it'll rain soon. 

"You're a stubborn one. It's okay, I'm used to being alone. And I'm not afraid anymore" 

He looked down "I won't tell you to rest in piece. I'm to selfish, to let you go" 

"It's almost time, but before I go. One more thing! Please take good care of my friends at the academy! Treat them with the same kindness, they treated me." She smiled "I'm sure you'll find someone better than me."

"Why does this sound like a goodbye?"

"Because it's a farewell. We won't meet again, Vo-kun. Not even in a dream." She smiled. "I know I said I don't want to be forgotten, but remembering me won't bring you happiness you're looking for. I'm sorry, Vo-kun. It made me really happy, that you still kept me in your memories, despite the fact that I've forgotten about you a long ago. Thank you, for being my friend...no...Thank you, for staying by my side. I hope you'll find the happiness, I wasn't destined to find"

When he woke up it was already time to get ready for his first day at the academy. The first thing he did after getting up was grabbing the photo of her and after a while he gave up.

"As I thought. I can't tear it after all"

He sighed then grabbed the uniform he received the other day and looked at his disappointed. Dark blue. Totally not his color and when he wore it, he didn't even comment on how much it doesn't suit him. After that he started the regular actions in the morning, since he'll be attending the academy he organized the meals for his family for the whole week. Once a week he'll prepare them and if Ryu has any trouble, he can simply ran to him to the dorms. Luckily it's not too far away. 

Vogen grabbed his bag and walked to the academy. As soon as he walked down the bridge, he noticed a lot of students. He has never seen so many races gathering in once place, from one side it's nice, from the other quite scary. Place two people from hating races in one room. Another bomb guarantee. It's surprising, that despite all of the attending here races, the academy still is in once piece. 

"Oh! A new face! Welcome" Said a girl with long white hair and green eyes. "My name is Batibat Deabru" She bowed.

"Vogen Realenyon. Would you mind telling me where I can find the headmistress?" 

"Oh! Well, Melfara is away for a while, but her role temporary took Lillitu. Her office is on the right of headmistress's. Go to the entrance the turn left and take the first turn left again, walk down the hallways and on the right will be her office. It shouldn't be hard to get there. Unless you have a really bad sense of direction" She giggled.

"I think I'm clever enough to get there, thanx"

"You're welcome." She smiled. 

Vogen walked as the girl told him. It didn't take long for him to find the office, when he entered inside, she saw a really pretty woman with pink hair. She smiled when she spot him and placed away her pen. 

"Oh honey! You look fabulous but those colors needs to altered immediately!" 

He stood there a bit like a fool, more shocked with her friendly behavior, then confused about the fact that all she just looked on was if the colors match or not. 

"Um? Okay. First: I can't agree more. They don't suit me, but what can I do? It's a uniform after all. Second: Are you Lilithu?"

"It's Lillitu, sweetheart" She giggled "And yes I am. 

"Ah! Pardon me, some names are hard to say."

"I'm assuming you are Vogen Realenyon. Welcome to the academy!" She shaked his hand "Your dorm room is 4 and you'll be sharing it with a student named Ren. Please don't try to cause trouble, punishment awaits everyone naughty student."

"I'll have that in mind"

"You'll be joining class 1-1, their lessons will start in a few minutes, so you can join them. Their class in on the first floor, go down the hallway you just went and search for class number A3" She smiled. 

"Thank you, Miss Lillitu" He smiled. 

"You're welcome, dear" 

Vogen left the room and walked the direction Lillitu mentioned. Attending class? It felt quite odd, to attend an academy. A bit like old times, though those were different. He remembered her words about taking care of her friends and that there are many wonderful people in the academy. So far he hasn't met many, but they are as nice as she said. Maybe it won't be as bad as he thinks. 

As if karma knew what he was thinking. Because suddenly a huge bolt of energy just pierced through the wall right in front of his eyes. One more step and he could have been the first student to attend the academy for less than ten minutes. When he turned his head right a girl with long gray hair was covering her month, then nervously hid her hands behind her back. 

"My bad" She smiled sticking out her tongue a bit. 

Nice it may seem, but it's more dangerous than a battlefield itself! He thought. 

"Ooh! A newbie and it's a guy! rare w.o.a.h. welcome to Melfar newbie! I'm Majoria the resident badass." She smiled, then jumped through the hole in the wall as if it wasn't a big deal that she almost got him killed.

"Um? Nice meeting you, I'm Vogen and I see you're a very....energetic one."

"Yea, i get that a lot, Vogen? sounds like a cool name, I'll remember that." She laughed entertained. 

"Majoria! Not again" A girl with short blue twin tails walked towards the girl. "Oh! Welcome to the academy!  My name is Kanako Fujisaki."

"My name is Vogen" 

"Don't worry, don't worry. This time I almost got it!" 

"Well, okay. But let's hurry, class will soon start and I don't think you would like to get into trouble, because of what's behind you" 

"You're right, let's go! See you around, Vogen!" She smiled. 

When they left Vogen didn't waste his time, he continued his search for class A3 and when he finally found it he knocked on the doors. After hearing a familiar voice, which allowed him to enter he saw Arashi greeting him with a smile. 

"Welcome, welcome. Meet class 1-1. Fighting Man & Supernatural Abilities. ~eru" Said Arashi and the class greeted him. 

Vogen saw two familiar faces. The girl from the bridge Batibat and the one with lovely hair, Kanako. He walked to the desk almost at the end and sat down, while Arashi continued his lessons. 

"Who wants to remind us about basic structure and role of each class? ~eru" He asked "Ineen, would you mind? ~eru"

"Of course!" Smiled the girl "The first line are always Fighting-man, class 1-1, they are soldiers of the unit, thus most of them head as first, since their specializing is in close combat. The ones who shield them or help are magic users and ranger class. Spell-casters create shields or fight magic with magic. Archers, snipers and spell-casters, fighting-men's role is quite simple, when enemy forces attack, they try to crush their battle arrays. Archers attack the front, while mages help them by ameliorating their weapons, with spells like: Fire or ice. Clerics, your role is most important, since they heal their comrades during the battle also their powers are good against "unholy" enemies"

"Bravo! ~eru" He smiled "That was an an reminder. Today we'll talk about how to fight a spell-caster enemy. So any ideas? ~eru"

"Maybe trying to somehow block their spells?" Suggested Kurai.

"Or being fast?" Said Kanji.

"Speed might not be enough, brother dear" 

"There are more ways then you think ~eru" He smiled "First of all, to even approach them you need a good armor, especially design for a battle with them. The next step depends on what type of magic you're dealing with. Black magic is harder to defeat, but possible. It depends on your will to fight. Remember that a mage can't cast spells non-stop. They need a rest to gather energy and mana, also some spells take time so they need to maintain distance. Don't give them neither space or time for it. Just like Kanji said, speed might not play the most important role, but it give you the advantage. While fighting a mage, use your head, think. You can also use their spells against them, if the situation allows you. Don't try to charge straight at them, be cleverer..."

The bell ring interrupted him and the students raised from their seats, but Arashi was fast enough to yell about the homework for next class, before they managed to leave. When Vogen was about to leave, he asked him to stay for a while.

"You didn't tell them about my race?" Asked Vogen.

"I figured out you wouldn't like it, none Vareos likes when their blood is mixed with another race. ~eru"

"I guess I should thank" 

"No problem" Smiled Arashi "You're good at hiding your Vareos part as well. I'm surprised."

"Actually, I don't have influence on it. Since the werewolf thing, my ears and tails, as well as speech had vanished. The ears and tails appear only during transformation."

"I see. What's the trigger? ~eru?"

"I guess anger...though I'm not quite sure."

"From Damien I gathered some information. It's mostly related to the sped of one's heart. The faster is races, the higher the possibility that you'll change. That may include anger, stress or even fear. We need to find the cause and something what's called anchor ~eru"

"Anchor? What do you mean?"

"You know how it's attached to a chain and is used to moor a vessel to the sea bottom. You need to find something, what will prevent you from changing, even during full moon. It will allow you to control your changes, for the next lesson I want you to make a list of things, you think might serve as a anchor. Though I may not have time to test it, I'll ask my brother or one of my fellow teachers, to check which one of your ideas might serve that role ~eru"

"Okay" He nodded. 

"If we don't find it till the next full moon....I think it would be better, to keep you somewhere else than a door room ~eru"

"I felt you would say that. Well it's understandable, I'll try my best in that case. Can I ask where are the dorms?" 

"Sure, go the same way you came and turn left, the opposite direction to the main entrance in which you came. When you leave the academy building go left, the first rectangle-like building are the dorms ~eru" He smiled. 

Vogen thanked again and left the class, he thought that the architect must had had something towards left directions, since he often turns that way. When he arrived at the dorms, he began searching for his room. It was 4, so it didn't take long to find. When he entered he saw a male student, probably his roommate. 

"New face. Welcome to the academy. My name is Ren. I'm new here too." 

"Vogen, I guess that we're roommates now."

"Seems like."

"So, how long have you been here?"

"Uhm... 2 weeks and 5 days"

"I see, not that long. I'm actually glad you're new as well" He smiled. "What is this place anyways?"

"Uhm... an academy, of course... May I ask you what you were planning on doing here if you didn't know that..."

" I let's see...um. Living! And let's just leave it there."

"Uhm... sure..." Said Ren confused.
